Organic For The Win

Last night, I busted out Aimee's George Foreman and grilled up some chicken for dinner.




Chicken and broccoli is my go-to "getting back on track" meal. I just feel so healthy when I'm eating it! I usually bake it or boil it, so grilling was a nice change of pace. This was my first time using the George Foreman, but it will definately not be my last!





Breakfast + Work-Out

I woke up this morning ready to keep this healthy streak going and whipped up tasty chocolate cherry protein smoothie for breakfast.




My shake contained:

  • 1/2 cup frozen cherries
  • Black cherry Chobani
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 Tbsp Hershey's cocoa (unsweetened)
  • handful of fresh organic spinach
  • water to thin it out
It was super chocolatey and refreshing :) After I finished my smoothie I headed to the gym for a low-impact walk on the treadmill. Today is my last day that I have to wear those darn compression stockings, which means tomorrow I can resume my regular work-outs! For the last few days, I've had to take it easy but I've been instructed to walk for at least 30 minutes every day. I usually walk around the neighborhood, but it was pretty yucky outside today so I took my work-out indoors. I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes, increasing the incline every minute and then bringing it back down to keep things interesting:
I thought about hopping on the stationary bike for a little while after I was done on the treadmill, but my compression stockings were all sweaty and gross (overshare, I know). Don't worry, I washed them after I got home :)
Lunch After laying around on the couch for the rest of the morning watching Jason X with Eric, I suddenly realized how hungry I was! I used leftover chicken from last night to make a sandwich for lunch. My sandwich was made on toasted sprouted whole grain bread and contained a slice of melted muenster cheese, guacamole, and spinach along with the chicken. I also had some fresh organic strawberries on the side.
This lunch was amazing for two reasons. For one, the sandwich made with grilled chicken was epic. I have no idea why I don't make these more often, but I'm definately going to start! Secondly, see those organic strawberries up there? Well, they were the best strawberries I have ever had IN MY LIFE. I actually had planned on purchasing non-organic strawberries because they were cheaper, but the whole "jumbo strawberries" gig started to weird me out and I decided that I prefer my fruit to not be on steroids. In addition to being chemical free, these strawberries were the sweetest, juiciest, and most flavorful strawberries I've ever had. Organic produce for the win. Well, I'm off to go be lazy and enjoy the rest of my Saturday. See ya! Do you buy organic produce? Can you taste a difference between organic and non-organic products? I buy a lot of my groceries organic, but honestly I don't always taste that much of a difference. So far, the foods that I have noticed a markedly different (in a good way) taste in are cottage cheese, nut butters, meat, and strawberries!
