Guess what? Today’s Thursday, which means tomorrow is FRIDAY which means it’s almost the weekend :D Mine’s going to be a busy one: I have a going-away party for a friend tomorrow night in Saginaw and on Saturday I’m moving back to Traverse City for the rest of the summer. I can’t believe I’ve been living in Grand Rapids for over a year now, it feels like I just moved here yesterday!
Today’s Eats + Work-Out
I mentioned yesterday that I am pretty much out of breakfast foods, so I dug into the box of Rice Krispies that I purchased for some baking I was planning to do. I added some unthawed frozen fruit and half a banana to liven it up a little.
After I my breakfast settled I knew that I needed to get a workout in because I had an afternoon of baking planned which could only mean one thing: massive cookie dough consumption. However, I had the hardest time motivating myself to get to the gym. After a very
very, very long pep talk with myself, I finally changed into my gym clothes and headed over. I was so glad that I did because I actually got in a fantastic work-out. I ran 3.0 miles on the treadmill (29:46) and finished off with 15 minutes on the elliptical. (Side note: Speaking of running, you should check out Devin's recent post on all of the benefits of running. Many of them apply to ALL forms of cardio as well!)
I was absolutely starving when I got home; cereal is the most un-filling breakfast ever! Still thinking about all of the sweet treats I’d be making soon, I kept lunch light and made a bagelwich out of the same ingredients I’ve been using for the past couple days: a Laughing Cow Light mozzarella cheese wedge, turkey, and avocado.
This sandwich was delicious. The flavors of the Everything Bagel Thin went perfectly with the other components of the sandwich. I don’t know why I’ve never made this before!
Baking How-Sweet Style
After lunch it was finally time to start baking! I made two recipes from Jessica's blog that I’ve been dying to try for months now: Better-Than-Crack Brownies and Double Fudge Oreo Crunch cookies. She wasn’t kidding when she said that this cookie batter is impossible to stay out of!
I’m bringing a big plate of each treat to both my gym (job security! haha) and to the party I’m going to tomorrow night. Unfortunately, I apparently still need to work on my baking skills. Remember the last time I made cookies and I accidently used twice as much butter as the recipe called for? Well this time I got all of the proportions right, but my oven is a little hotter than normal and I burnt the first batch :(
Luckily the second pan full of cookies turned out great, but I didn’t want to give the burnt ones to my gym OR bring them to the party and there weren’t enough of the good cookies to bring to both places. I decided the only solution was to just make another batch :)
After snacking on cookie dough
and burnt cookies all afternoon, I was desperate to get something with some substance and a little more nutritional value into my belly, so I’m currently munching on an Amy’s frozen White Pizza for dinner.
And now I’m off to finish baking the last of the cookies and finally START PACKING. It’s going to be a late night…
Which do you prefer: the cookies or the dough?
For me it’s no contest, the dough is a million times better than the actual cookie. I’m surprised that I managed to save as much of it as I did earlier; for a while I was worried I wasn’t going to have enough for the cookies because I couldn’t keep my paws out of it.
