Hey guys! Don’t worry, I’m still alive I am so sorry for being the world’s worst blogger this week, but I literally have not had a spare minute to sit down at the computer and write a post. Every day now I wake up and go to my rotation from 7:00 am to 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon. Then I come home, have a snack, hit the gym, eat dinner, work on rotation projects/organize my life, and then it’s time for bed! However, blogging is something that is really important to me and while school does rank higher on the priority list right now, I will be making much more of an effort to squeeze in my daily posts. Plus, it helps keep me on track and I love all of the positive feedback. So please bear with me over the next few months as things get a little crazy around here, and as always, thanks for reading
Since I haven’t updated since Monday (seriously, I think this is the longest I’ve gone without blogging since my bloggy break back in the spring), I decided to just do a little recap post with the highlights of the week since so much has happened.
On Tuesday night, a whole bunch of my family met up at Boone’s to celebrate my mom’s birthday. (We actually went there for my dad's birthday as well back in June.) Since we were quite a large group (there were nine of all together), my sister and I entertained ourselves at the restaurant bar while we waited to be seated. We actually made friends with quite a few of the *older* gentlemen sitting there, and one of them not only agreed to snap a photo of us, but he paid for our drinks as well!
By the time we were seated, I was absolutely starving and practically attacked my salad when it was brought out.
Unfortunately, I was not very impressed with the salad and only ate a few bites before enjoying a couple slices of bread. However, all was made right in the world when my main meal was brought out:
The shrimp at Boone’s is phenomenal and I devoured almost every piece. The only reason I didn’t clean my plate was because I had a few bites of my sister’s stuffed mushrooms, and because I was saving room for dessert!
We brought my mom’s out-of-this-world pumpkin cake from home (the same cake I had on my last birthday), plus the restaurant brought out a complimentary slice of birthday cheesecake!
We passed the cheesecake around the table and everyone had a bite, and we all enjoyed a delicious slice of cake. It was a great evening and it’s such a rare occasion that my entire family gets together like this so I always make sure to enjoy it when I can.
As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I’ve been forced to start working out in the afternoons/evenings because of my new schedule, and it is SO hard to find motivation after a long day. Luckily, I’ve done pretty well for the most part his week. I already posted about Monday's workout, Tuesday was a quick 30 minute cardio session (20 min Arc Trainer and 10 min Stairmaster) followed by a quick ab routine:
- Side bends (25 lbs): 4 sets x 15 reps (each side)
- Crunches: 3 sets x 20 reps
- Leg raises: 3 sets x 15 reps
And Wednesday I managed to make it 2 miles (running and walking) on the treadmill before calling it quits because I just wasn’t feeling it. Yesterday I took the day off because I left straight from my rotation to go to Grand Rapids (where I’ll be spending the rest of my weekend) and unfortunately I forgot my tennis shoes so I’m not counting on doing much exercising while I’m down here.
Smoothies to go have been my go to breakfast this week since they’re so fast and easy.
(frozen mango, frozen cherries, pineapple Chobani, milk and spinach)
And my packed lunches have all been pretty standard and boring: salads and bagelwiches.
(My current favorite bagelwich fillings are either turkey, cheese, spinach and light mayo; or turkey, avocado and a Laughing Cow wedge.)
However, I did buy my lunch in the cafeteria yesterday and enjoyed this tasty wrap that they had featured on the menu:
(Ham, cheese, Romaine, tomato, cucumber and herbed mayo on a tomato basil wrap; plus a pear)
The cafeteria food at the hospital I’m at rotation at is pretty legit, but I am going to try to limit myself to only buying lunch one day a week. I know I could find healthy options, but it’s too tempting for me to get junk when I buy my lunch. Their cookies are amazing!
Oh, one more tasty meal that I enjoyed last night and just couldn’t leave out of this post:
(Don’t mind the clenched fist or the random hook on the table in the picture)
Chef Eric did it again and whipped up yet another delicious dinner for us last night. He seasoned and fried cod on the stovetop (which he said he used very minimal oil to do) and then served it with some greens so we could turn them into cod salads.
I’m really not a fan of fish, but this was awesome!
My New Toy
Last but not least, I just wanted to say that I’ve finally joined the smart phone club
I’ve been debating between the iPhone and a Droid for the longest time, and when I walked into the Verizon store I thought for sure I’d be getting an iPhone. However, low and behold I ended up walking out with a Droid Incredible 2, and I absolutely love it. I’m still trying to figure out how to use it and get everything all customized and what not, but I’m so glad I picked this phone. Oh, and the best part?
I can blog from my phone now
Well, I’m off to relax and enjoy a nice weekend after a busy week. Don’t worry though, I won’t be gone for 4 days like I was last time
Question of the day: Droid or iPhone and why?
