I just got back from my first turbo kick class in months, and it was great! We arrived at the gym shortly after 5:00, and the original game plan was to do legs and then some HIIT on the stationary bike, but my plans changed after I saw that there was a turbo kick class at 5:30. I made it through two leg exercises and then headed off to class while Eric finished the lift and then ran on the treadmill. Here are the exercises I did manage to do:
- Barbell squats 2 sets x 20 reps
- Barbell step-ups 2 sets x 10 reps each leg
(Eric also did lunges and lots of calf raises.)
Turbo kick was a lot of fun and I’m hoping to make it to the Saturday morning class, but it also really frustrated me. I get extremely impatient and frustrated when I don’t catch onto something right away, and today was a prime example of this not-so-awesome personality trait. The first thirty minutes of the class were fine because even if I couldn’t figure out the movements right away, there was still plenty of jumping which kept my heart rate up. However, during the last fifteen minutes the punches and kicks got more complicated and not only was I having trouble figuring out all the movements, but I didn’t feel like I was getting a good cardio workout anymore. This frustrated me even more and I was tempted to just leave. I stuck it out though and I think after a couple more classes, I’ll get the moves down. Well, at least I hope so!
Breakfast and Lunch
I kept breakfast simple this morning with a bowl of cereal and some turkey bacon.
I usually eat Kashi Go Lean Crunch, but this week I decided to try the plain Kashi Go Lean. It wasn’t quite as sweet as the Go Lean Crunch, but at 140 calories, 10 grams of protein, and 13 grams of fiber per serving (I had 1.5 servings), I’ll take it!
Rotation today was quite productive. We reviewed and practiced how to take medication histories and then spent the rest of the day working on projects. While the three of us students work together on everything, we each have two projects that we’re the “leader” of. My projects include the community outreach project (where we’ll be visiting a local elementary school to talk about germs) and helping to organize two flu vaccine clinics that we’ll be doing in a couple of weeks. I’m pretty excited about both of these!
Lunch was something different for once! I made two lettuce wraps (I was inspired after my Unwich on Monday) and filled them with turkey, provolone, and mashed avocado.
They were delicious! I think I’ll be making these a lot.
I ate two lettuce wraps along with a cup of Strawberry Banana Greek yogurt.
Eric enjoyed a big old tupperware full of leftover steak pasta.
Oh to have a guy’s metabolism…
Like many other bloggers out there, I was stoked to recently receive some samples of the newest Larabar flavor, Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte.
I sent two home with my mom (who is just as obsessed with Larabars as I am, if not more) and kept two for myself to try.
HOLY COW. This new flavor instantly made its way into my top three (which also include Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Cashew Cookie). You all know how obsessed I am with dried cherries, and this new Larabar has a delicious cherry flavor and is also sweet and chocolaty. Perfectly delicious.
