It’s been a busy, emotional, and very sick week around here. I wrapped up the final week of my academic rotation (which got pretty crazy at the end), enjoyed my last week in Grand Rapids, and continued to try to fight off this awful freaky-lump-inducing illness. With all that’s been going on, I just haven’t been in the mood to blog. Blogging is something I do because I love it, so I hate forcing it on myself when I don’t feel up to it because I think it negatively affects the quality of my posts. Things are settling down for a bit now though so hopefully I won’t be taking such long hiatuses anymore .
Lets get to some updates!
Since we worked a lot with rapid diagnostic tests on this past rotation, I actually had Eric poke me and run a mono test on Wednesday.
The result was negative.
I had been feverish pretty much every morning and night for almost a week, so the next day I finally drove myself to the Urgent Care. I’m very reluctant to go to urgent care clinics because unless you have a urinary tract infection or strep throat, I don’t really think they can do much for you. However, my parents urged me to go after seeing how swollen my lymph node was so I humored them. The physician’s assistant tested me for strep throat (I told her I already tested myself for mono), and when the strep test came back negative she said it was probably viral but still sent me off with a prescription for an antibiotic. When I asked what she was treating, she couldn’t really answer but said it could be an infection in my lymph nodes. Hmmm, maybe that’s why the side of my neck has a lump the size of golf ball…
My appetite has been really wacky this week, and exercise has been sadly nonexistent due to both my schedule and illness. I haven’t felt very healthy and I’m not proud of a lot of the food choices I’ve made, but life happens. There has been lots of eating out:
And on Friday this happened:
We brought in two dozen Krispy Kremes on the last day of our rotation for our doughnut-obsessed preceptor and I ate far more than I care to disclose on this blog.
Friday night was also when I “celebrated” Halloween and went to a little party at a friend’s place.
I was a “South Seas Siren” and while I loved the costume, I didn’t get to stay dressed up for very long. A lot of our friends had studying to do, and the rest of them headed downtown after a couple hours and Eric and I were just not in the mood. We were both tired and I was still feeling pretty lousy. However, I still manage to have a good time while I was there.
Oh, and speaking of Eric, I thought I’d clear things up for all of you who have asked if I’m seeing him. I know that some of things I post may be misleading and make it appear that we’re “together,” but the truth is that Eric and I are just friends. We’ve always been, and always will be, incredibly close and he will always be my best friend. We made a great team over the last month and I’m really going to miss
having someone cook for me him.
Check out this painting that he painted for me:
It’s a combination of four different album covers from our favorite bands that he combined into one piece of art. Isn’t he so talented?! I love it .
Today has been pretty wonderful so far. I arrived back in Traverse City around 11:30 and my parents and I grabbed lunch at Oryana.
My mom and I split a chicken chipotle wrap and a vegan peanut butter brownie, and I also had small serving a spicy cashew noodle salad on the side.
I also finished reading Safe Haven this afternoon, which was SO good. I’ll be sure to write a review about it. I actually have three book reviews to write, so I’ll try to get those up this week.
After I get this post up, I’m planning on spending the rest of the afternoon updating some pages on the blog, doing laundry, writing a new workout routine, relaxing, and getting more acquainted with the newest member of the Berg family…who I’ll introduce to you tomorrow .
Have a happy Sunday
