Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day with family and friends full of food, fun and football .
As you know, my day started off with the Traverse City Turkey Trot 5K. My sister and I woke up bright and early and ready to get in a nice calorie burn before the day’s festivities began.
We met up with one of her friends who lives downtown and then headed over to Thirlby Field where the race was starting.
The race started and ended on the football field, which was kind of neat.
After crossing the finish line, I only had one thing to say:
A 5K is definitely NOT 3.44 miles.
Anger.
I really wanted to beat last years time (35:08) but after we hit 3.15 miles and I wasn’t on track to meet my goal – plus I still couldn’t even see the finish line – I got kind of annoyed and started walking a little. Other than that, I ran the first 2.5 miles without stopping (not even at the water stations!) until we came to a big hill, which killed me near the end of it.
Here are my splits:
Mile 1: 10:50
Mile 2: 11:27
Mile 3: 12:00
Last 0.44 miles: 4:46
I’m not happy with my time, but I’m just going to look at it as an opportunity for improvement. The race was longer than last year and I’m a few pounds heavier now, so of course I’m going to be slower. On a positive note though, I felt great when I finished! Normally I feel like I’m going to throw up after I finish a race, but I was full of energy as I crossed the finish line.
I already posted about it on Facebook, but if you ran a race this morning I’d love it if you’d send me some pictures! Feel free to write a little blurb about it as well; I would really like to post them on the blog .
Yesterday I was a busy bee in the kitchen, prepping the sweet potato casserole
cooking a spaghetti dinner for my dad and sister who have been living off of frozen meals and pizza for the last week (mom’s in Arizona with her family)
and baking a fantastic batch of cookies.
These white chocolate cranberry cookies are seriously to die for.
All I did was follow the recipe for white chocolate macadamia nut cookies on the back of the Ghirardelli white chocolate chips bag, only I left out the nuts and added one cup of dried cranberries. Absolutely delicious.
Well, I’ve got to get the sweet potato casserole in the oven and finish getting ready for dinner. We’re heading over to my aunt’s house at half time (yeah, I don’t even know who’s playing) and it’s sure to be a good time. Here’s my attempt to get some nutrients in before the fattening feast:
Have a fantastic day and I’ll see ya tomorrow .
