Welcoming Back Veggies

Yes, it’s true. After a weekend-long hiatus, I’m happy to say that fruits and veggies were welcomed back into my life today. It started with the banana in my cereal at breakfast today, and continued with this outstanding salad at lunch. I met up with my friend Shanna at The Silver Swan where we enjoyed our meal and chatted away for a good two hours.

We each got the above-pictured Julienne Salad, which contained lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, and julienned carrots, Swiss cheese, and ham. It was absolutely incredible and has officially made my Top 3 list of the best salads in Traverse City (the other two being the TC's Favorite Salad from The Dish and the Mango Cashew Chicken Salad from Red Mesa Grill).


Along with our salads, we split the grilled Norwegian sandwich, which contained lettuce, carrot and cucumber (more veggies!), along with a bistro sauce. It was also delicious.

We had been chatting for an hour or so after we finished eating when we both noticed that the dessert display was staring us down. We decided to split a brownie.

Just as we expected, it was phenomenal. So moist and chocolaty Open-mouthed smile.


After lunch I took care of a few things at home before heading over to the gym for a good workout. I began with 10 minutes on the Stair Master and then competed the following lower body routine:

  • Squats – 100 reps total
  • Leg Press 3 sets x 12 reps
  • Calf raises 3 sets x 25 reps
  • Hip adductor 3 sets x 20 reps
  • Butt blasters 3 sets x 15 reps
  • Seated leg curls 3 sets x 20 reps
  • Deadlifts 3 sets x 15 reps

I finished with 20 minutes on the Arc Trainer. The squats were much better today; normally it takes me three to four sets to complete all 100, but today I finished with one set of 60 and one set of 40. I’m not sure if it’s because normally I run for 20 minutes before I do legs (and I didn’t today), or if my legs are just getting stronger; but I’m happy to see improvement!

And now I’m not far from crashing. The next few days are going to be busy. Between work, seminar, my cousin’s engagement party, the holidays, and my birthday, I’ve got a lot going on!
