Hello and happy Saturday!
This morning I was up early for that community service project that I briefly mentioned last night. Three other pharmacy students and I met up and did free blood pressure screenings and glucose tests at a local gym. The gym was G Force Fitness, and it is a group fitness class gym that’s offering free classes all day. Needless to say, it was packed and we did a LOT of screenings!
And she also set up a neat display in honor of our glucose screenings. She actually measured out the amount of sugar that is found in some favorite sweet treats so people could get a visual representation of the sugar content. They were pretty shocked when they saw this!
I was appalled when I saw how much sugar is in a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. I mean, I knew it was a lot, but holy cow; that’s practically half the container!
I’m definitely guilty of eating one of these bad boys all in one sitting, but I’m going to remember this picture next time I’m tempted to do that again…
The four of us paired up and did two hour shifts for the event. Megan and I had the first shift, and Megan did the blood pressure screenings
While I did the glucose tests.
I did the most screenings this morning that I’ve ever done at a single event: nearly 30 in a span of two hours! We were all really happy with the turnout.
In addition to the screenings we were doing, there was also a masseuse giving out free massages
And lots and lots of free food!
I had a wafflewich and a pear before I left the house (same breakfast as yesterday), but I snagged a little oatmeal with brown sugar and raisons for a mid morning snack:
My mom gave me her leftover pasta from Carrabba’s last night, so I’m munching on that for lunch:
Plus a spinach salad with feta, dried cherries, and sunflower seeds.
Quite the tasty Saturday lunch!
I’m off to Melissa’s for a day of dress shopping (wedding for her, bridesmaid for me) so I’ll see ya’ll tomorrow!
Enjoy your day
