A Sense of Stability

Hello! Did anyone else have some crazy thunderstorms last night? It was intense over here and at around 10:30 pm my power went out, and then one of my smoke alarms proceeded to beep every minute all night until about 5:30 this morning when the power finally went back on. Needless to say, I didn’t get the best night’s sleep. Even though I say this almost every day, I am seriously going to bed SO early tonight.

In other news, things are going very well. It feels nice to finally start to get into a groove: wake up, work out, go to work, come home and make dinner, relax/take care of other projects that need to be done. This is honestly the first time this year that I am finally starting to feel a sense of stability in my life. Between rotations, graduation, my board exams, and moving, I haven’t been able to settle into a routine for longer than a few weeks. Now that I’m officially a pharmacist, have a steady job, and *finally* have my own apartment,I think I’ll be pretty comfortable here for a while.

Even though I love being on my own, I think the thing I’ll miss the most about living with my parents is having dinner already made when I come home from work! I was quickly reminded of that last night when I arrived back at my apartment shortly before 7:00 with a grumbling tummy after a long day. The last thing I wanted to do was cook something, but I’ve got to start getting in the habit. I didn’t make anything too fancy, but I did quickly coat some chicken thighs with a thin layer of Italian bread crumbs and pop them in the oven. While I waited for my chicken to bake, I munched on a salad as an appetizer.

DSC00218

Still loving this salad combo! Spinach, goat cheese, strawberries, and poppy seed dressing. Mmmmmm…

DSC00219

After thirty minutes, my main course was ready!

DSC00220

I made enough for three nights since that seems to be about how long I can eat a meal without getting sick of it. (Side note – that is actually only true for dinner. I can, and do, eat the same thing day after day for breakfast and lunch and never get tired of it, but I get bored after just two nights in a row of the same dinner. Weird, right?)

DSC00221

I had two pieces and scarfed them down!

DSC00223

The edges were perfectly crispy. Yum!

Now that I’m settling into a routine, I’m going to make more of an effort to make blogging a regular part of that again. I really do miss it! Also, I know I can’t avoid the subject of weight loss forever and I’ll get a post up about it soon enough, but for right now I’m getting back on track and I’m excited about finally being able to devote more time to that. It’s only been one day, but so far so good Smile.

Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday!

Apartment Tour with Lots of Pictures!

Happy Monday my friends!

I’ve just about got everything unpacked and where I want it, so I thought I’d share some pictures of my new place with you! I love love LOVE my apartment and I’m so happy here. Enjoy the photos!

View when you first walk in through the front door:

Coat closet is to the left when you walk in:

DSC00209

Kitchen:

DSC00201

The cupboard space is amazing. The last apartment I lived in earlier this year was a teeny tiny studio and there was literally zero counter space and hardly any cupboard space. You can see a picture of it in this post if you’re curious.

DSC00202

Here’s my “living room.” I wasn’t sure how all my furniture would fit in here, but I’m really happy with this layout.

DSC00203

I definitely need to get some pictures on the walls!

DSC00204

Also, the wall/area behind the couch really needs some work. I’m thinking about maybe buying a desk to put here. Thoughts?

DSC00206

Here’s another view of the kitchen and living room from patio door.

DSC00205

Speaking of patio, here it is!

DSC00208

I got those chairs from my neighbor’s garage sale for $15.00 each and my mom gave me those two tables. Score!

There’s also a little storage area off of my balcony which is the perfect place to store my bike. My dad attached a hook to the wall so I can hang it up and save space. There’s tons of room for my ski stuff now once winter rolls around!

DSC00207

Alright, back to the inside!

Here’s the hallway leading to the bathroom:

DSC00210

The washer and dryer is inside that closet. One of the things I love about these apartments is that all units come equipped with their own washer and dryer. This was a huge bonus!

DSC00211

The bathroom is nothing too exciting, but it works!

DSC00212

And now for my favorite part of the apartment. To the left of the hallway that leads to the bathroom is my room!

DSC00214

I got my bedroom set from the clearance center at Art Van and I’m in love with it. This is also my first time owning a queen size bed. Boy have I been missing out!

DSC00216

That end table actually belongs to the coffee tablet set that you see in the living room. I didn’t need/have room for two end tables in the living room so I put one in my room. It matches perfectly and I didn’t have to buy an additional end table – win!

DSC00217

It’s so perfect Smile.

I also “cooked” my first meal in my new place yesterday.

DSC00196

English muffin, ham, eggs, spinach, and avocado

DSC00197

with a bowl of cherries on the side.

DSC00198

Not a very impressive meal, I know, but I do plan on baking some chicken tonight after work.

Speaking of work, it’s just about time for me to head out! Hope you liked the pictures and I’ll see you guys tomorrow!

Just Popping In

Good morning, friends!

I’m just popping in to let you know that everything went smoothly yesterday and I am officially moved into my own apartment! I will post pictures later than this week when everything is unpacked, but I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect apartment for me and I’m so excited that I can finally call it home!

Thanks to the help of Eric and my parents (and my sister, who helped me move a bunch of stuff on Friday night), we had everything unloaded and in the apartment by 10:30 am yesterday! After everything was inside, Eric and my dad got to work putting together my TV stand, which looks awesome.

DSC00193

While they did that, my mom and I worked on unpacking boxes in the kitchen and bedroom.

DSC00195

I was so, so grateful for their help. I really hate moving but it’s not so bad when you have dedicated helpers like that! I can’t wait to show you guys pictures of the place Smile.

I actually have got to get going to the grocery store (gotta love the first official grocery haul – you know it’ll be a big one!) and then I need to get back to unpacking. Later this afternoon I have a date at the gym and then tonight I’m meeting up for dinner and drinks with a bunch of the girls from work to (finally) celebrate my pharmacy school graduation. Should be fun!

I’m excited to start fresh tomorrow with a new week. I plan on hopping back on the diet train again and getting recommitted with my workouts. I’m also looking forward to the weekend because on Saturday Melissa is getting married!!

Catch you guys and gals later!

Getting Reacquainted With the Treadmill

Hello!

As you can imagine, these past few days have been full of working and getting ready for my upcoming move on Saturday. Over the weekend, my friend Curtis went shopping for a few apartment essentials that I was currently lacking, like bedding and kitchen supplies.

IMAG0958

(That KitchenAid Cookware Set was on clearance! Score!)

I knew that moving was going to be expensive because I’m basically starting from the ground up, but I had no idea it was going to be this expensive. Security deposits, rent, and furniture is one thing, but all the other little things like dinnerware, appliances, pots and pans, bathroom stuff (shower curtain, etc.), and bedding adds up FAST! I have spent more money than I can afford already and I still don’t have everything I need. Every day I think of something else that slipped my mind that I haven’t gotten yet, like a trash can for the kitchen, a toothbrush holder (seriously, where else am I supposed to put it?!), and paper towels. The good thing about all this though is that the next time I move, it should be much easier because I’ll already have all of this stuff. Thank goodness!

On Saturday night after we were done with our shopping, Eric arrived for a short and sweet visit. He made a quick dinner for us (yes, he visits me and then does the cooking – what a guy!)

DSC00165

which we enjoyed al fresco.

DSC00166

His cooking skills never cease to amaze me. He has no formal training of any kind, yet he has the ability to just throw a bunch of stuff in a pan and have it turn out delicious. When he asked what my mom had in her cupboards for sauces, I said “um, we have some Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and molasses…” Much to my surprise, he replied, “Oh, molasses? I’ve never cooked with that before. Let me have it.” He added it to the chicken he was pan frying along with some garlic, seasoned salt, paprika, and crushed red pepper flakes and it was awesome.

After dinner we went to see Batman (wasn’t a huge fan) and then came back for wine and dessert that he brought up with him.

DSC00168

It’s not a good picture, but it’s called Four Layer Delight and it’s pretty much amazing. The bottom layer is a crispy pecan crust, followed by a cream cheese layer, then chocolate pudding, and whipped cream on top. I’m not sure exactly what recipe he used, but I’m sure I can find out if anyone is interested Smile.

In other news, this morning I got reacquainted with an old friend.

DSC00405

(old picture from my days when the treadmill and I were BFFs)

I haven’t been running too much lately, but when my plans to go biking this morning were scratched by the rain I decided to hit the gym and try my hand at a new treadmill workout. It’s a beginner’s interval-style workout and may be too easy for a lot of you (just adjust the speeds to meet your needs), but it was very challenging for me and I was huffin’ and puffin’ by the end.

I did the five minute warm-up walk at a 5.0 incline, which really amped up the intensity. I was going to use an incline during the cool down as well, but I was too pooped Winking smile.

Before my workout, I fueled up with some breakfast:

Nothing you haven’t seen before. Eggs + toast:

Off to work! Have a great day and I’ll catch ya later Smile

Moving Update and Montgomery Gentry Concert

Good morning and happy Saturday!

It’s been a whirlwind of a week over here because I found out that instead of moving on August 18th like I had originally thought, I am actually going to be moving THIS coming Saturday! It turns out that the people who’s apartment I was planning on taking over ended up canceling their move, thus leaving me without an apartment. However, there ended up being a different apartment available due to a cancelled move-in, but if I wanted it the complex could only hold it for two weeks. I was not about to be put on another waiting list and since the apartment was the exact same layout as my other one, I decided to take it! That’s right, in one week from today I’ll be moving into my very own apartment. Whoo hoo!

In the meantime, my parent’s house currently looks like this…

IMAG0955

and this…

DSC00162

and this.

DSC00163

Yeah, my stuff is officially taking over the entire house. At first I was worried that I should have gotten a bigger apartment (or maybe a townhouse with a basement) because I have so much stuff, but I think in the end this will be good for me. Considering this is the “take everything you own out of our house” move, it’s forcing me to suppress my pack-rat instincts and get rid of stuff that I really don’t need.

IMAG0956

Dear pharmacy school notes: It’s been fun, but I don’t think I’ll need you anymore to count by 5’s and battle with insurance companies all day long Winking smile.

I did manage to have a little fun this week in between working and packing. On Wednesday night, my parents and I headed out to Interlochen Center for the Arts for dinner and a concert! We went to The Hofbrau to eat – a local pub that’s always packed every single night of the week.

DSC00148

We all shared a crab dip appetizer and I had a side salad and stuffed chicken for my main meal.

DSC00142DSC00141DSC00143DSC00149

It was good, but the chicken was fried and was pretty greasy.

After dinner and a stop at the ice cream shop, we headed down the road for the highlight of the night: Montgomery Gentry!

IMAG0952

So much fun!

DSC00157

The country duo was loud and energetic and really knew how to get the crowd going. I’ve never been to a country music concert before, but it was a blast! There were tons of people dancing the aisles and everyone was singing along to all the songs. My only regret is not purchasing the album before hand because I didn’t know very many of the songs.

My parents had a great time too!

DSC00156

My mom made a comment during dinner that went something like, “aw, this is our last little family outing before you move!” She says things like that all the time and my dad and I just laugh because my apartment is seriously five minutes away from their house. I’d hate to see what she’d do if I ever have to leave Traverse City!

Today’s plans include shopping for bedding and kitchen stuff with my friend Curtis, and then Eric is coming up this evening to keep me company for the night (my parents are out of town this weekend so I’m home watching the cats). Should be a good day!

Oh, before I leave here’s the winner of My Big Bottom Blessing book giveaway:
