New year. New post.
How is everyone? I decided to log on tonight and was surprised to see that my deserted blog over here has been getting quite a few hits while I’ve been gone. When I checked the traffic sources, I found this article: The 100 Most Inspirational Weight Loss Bloggers of 2013.
Low and behold, there was I was - #87. It’s pretty low on the list but considering how infrequently I blogged last year I was still happy to see that I made it on at all, especially in the company of so many of my favorite bloggers.
Even though it’s an old article, seeing it motivated me to whip up a post.
I’m not going to lie: 2013 was not the best year for me. I’m not about to relive all the low points, so instead of focusing on that I’m trying to do everything I can to make 2014 much better. Obviously I have a lot of work to do with my weight loss. I’ve done nothing but take steps back and I think it’s really taking a toll on my happiness. More than one person has pointed out to me that I’ve seemed “grumpy” the past couple months and I think my struggles with my weight have a lot to do with it. When you’re not comfortable in your skin, it makes even the day to day activities tough. I renewed my gym membership on December 31st (I know, I know; cliché much?) and I’m still working on including more fruits and vegetables into my diet and less junk. I’m not ready to talk numbers, but of course I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress.
In other news, I’ve been working hard to keep myself busy. I signed up to be a mystery shopper and that has been a lot of fun for me. For those who don’t know, a mystery shopper, also known as a secret shopper, is someone who is paid a small fee to go into a store, act like an average customer seeking assistance with something, and then evaluate the service they receive. We get mystery shoppers at the pharmacy, which is how I got the idea. Basically, after the mystery shopping company accepts your application then you can view available shops in your area that you are eligible for. It’s fun, but it’s a lot more work than it seems. The surveys take a long time and there are a LOT of details that you have to look out for. Also, if you don’t follow the directions EXACTLY, don’t submit your survey and/or receipts on time (usually within 12 hours of completing the shop), or miss your shop all together then you forfeit your payment. I know what it’s like to get a crappy shopper or an inaccurate evaluation so I always makes sure to be incredible detailed and point out as many positive things about my experience as I can. It’s kind of a fun hobby, and who doesn’t want to get paid to shop?!
Okay, that’s not a mystery shopping related photo but I really wanted to share it. My friend and I found these cat shirts at the mall last month on a clearance rack. Yes, we bought them.
Speaking of crazy cat ladies, Mikey is doing well.
Oh my gosh, and because you guys didn’t get to see it yet, I HAVE to show you my Christmas card I sent out to everyone last year.
Anyway, in addition to adding mystery shopping to my hobby list, I’ve also gotten into the eBay thing. I was always intimidated by it, but they have this awesome app that makes it SO easy to list something. It took a little while to get the hang of it, but now I’m obsessed with finding things I don’t want anymore that I can sell for a little extra money. I’ve already sold two digital cameras, my voice recorder from pharmacy school, a purse, a bunch of old magazines (yes, people buy old magazines!), a Clinique make-up sample kit, and some other random stuff. It’s fun!
That’s pretty much all that’s new with me these days! I’m still single and still living and working in Traverse City. I’ve been hanging out with friends a lot on weekends which is always a good time. Last night I went out with a group of them and had a blast.
I was introduced to Rumple Minze, which is a German peppermint schnapps. My friend bought us a shot of it, and it pretty much tastes like a Christmas tree. Ten minutes later came shot number two, followed later by shot number three. I had no idea that the clear minty beverage was so dangerous – it’s actually 100 proof!! Dang. It goes down way too easily to be that alcoholic. Bad news bears.
We were hit hard fast and didn’t last much longer at the bar. Note to self – stay away from the Minze.
Before hitting the bars, we stopped at our favorite restaurant, Firefly, to grab dinner. I got the avocado salad and a Florida roll (shrimp, red pepper, and avocado tempura fried).
Delicious as always!
I know I always say this, but I really am going to try to post more this year. I just go through phases, and when my weight is not doing good then my blogging suffers because I feel like I have nothing to write about it. Not only is it a new year, but I also just had my 25th birthday.
When I turn 26, I want to be in a much better place than I was on this birthday. 2014 is going to be the year for self-improvement, I can feel it ;).
This is crazy cat lady signing off. Have a good night everyone!
